Our hometown of Atlanta will receive national attention when it hosts Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019. The Super Bowl is the most watched television show each year in the U.S., with an average of more than 110 million viewers. More than a week’s worth of events and activities surrounding the Super Bowl are certain to entertain the Atlanta community and visitors – with the game taking place at Atlanta’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Within walking distance of hotels, shopping, dining, and entertainment, the 53rd Super Bowl is set to be what some are saying will be the most walkable Super Bowl ever.
The bid process to secure Atlanta as the host city for the 2019 bowl game began in 2015. When the NFL announced Atlanta as the 2019 destination they focused on a theme of, ‘Atlanta Transformed’ – highlighting the city’s new infrastructure and growth since the last time Atlanta hosted the Super Bowl in 2000.
On a recent planning visit to Atlanta the Super Bowl LIII Host Committee attended a reception hosted by several of Atlanta’s hospitality and DMC service companies. Your Event Solution had the opportunity of being a part of this special occasion that included a prestigious group of individuals attending. We were honored to work with event producer Destination South Meetings and Events as the design partner for their area of the reception. Creating an atmosphere that was hip and artsy, we brought in bright color accents, modern and unique furniture, and geometric shapes that perfectly portrayed Midtown Atlanta,
The vibrant design of this event was strategic as we highlighted areas of Midtown Atlanta that will most positively be visited when people visit Atlanta Super Bowl week: the High Museum, the Margaret Mitchell House, Fox Theater and the Center for Puppetry Arts. Drawing inspiration from the recent LOS TROMPOS (Spinning Tops) interactive art installation by Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena at the High Museum, our team created a ‘string installation’ that pulled all components of the design together. Another High Museum inspiration we integrated was the use of unique ‘face’ chairs placed alongside other contemporary yet cozy seating. Every area for seating was accented with custom graphic pillows also designed by YES. Throughout the area and even overhead we placed signage that told the story of Midtown Atlanta – these too were designed by YES.
The venue for this NFL Host Committee reception was selected as Ventanas Atlanta where, in the distance, guests could see Midtown Atlanta along with 360-degree views of the city. From feedback received during the event and following, guests of the reception felt a true connection with our design. The passion and insight regarding Atlanta that we incorporated in this Midtown and art scene inspired environment was most definitely appreciated, and something our team was proud of.
